7.6k New armchairs to 143 schools in AgSur
As part of its 8-point program of governance for quality and effective education, the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur (PGAS) has donated classroom armchairs to 143 schools across the province.
Illigal logs confiscated by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources were given to PGAS for their own use. From these logs, 7,667 chairs were produced.
“I am expressing my gratitude to Gov. Santiago Cane Jr. and Cong. Eddiebong Plaza because when I first approached them for support, they did not hesitate to help,” DENR Caraga Nonito Tamayo said to Governor Cane and Cong. Plaza. “As an expression of our gratitude to the provincial government and the good Congressman, I offered to donate the confiscated logs for whatever projects they have in mind for their benefit of the constituents.”
According to Acting Community Affairs Officer Jedah Ross Simugan, the two divisions of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Agusan del Sur made recommendations on which schools will receive the chairs and how many chairs each school should receive.
The chairs were distributed as follows: 9 schools in Bunawan received 523; 19 schools in Esperanza received 1,170; 6 schools in La Paz received 305; 6 schools in Loreto received 460; 6 schools in Prosperidad received 414; 5 schools in Rosario received 241; 10 schools in San Francisco received 715; 7 schools in San Luis received 140; 3 schools in Sibagat received 140; and 2 schools in Sta. Josefa received 80.
The distribution also include 395 chairs for 9 schools in Talacogon, 1,395 for 18 schools in Trento, 45 for 1 school in Veruela, and 1,420 for 42 schools in Bayugan City.
According to the data collected 207,232 classroom chairs are required in schools across all grade levels in the province.
In all of the province’s classrooms, there are only 183,764 chairs available for students to use. After receiving 7,667 chairs, Agusan del Sur schools still need 15,801 more.
Agusan del Sur DepEd Superintendent Dr. Minerva Albis expressed appreciation for the chairs on behalf of the schools in her division, saying they will be used as part of the tools to guarantee that students in receive a quality education.
Dr. Imelda Sabornido, head of the Bayugan City division, complimented that the chairs will be beneficial to the city’s schools and students. (with reports from Jireh Saludar of PTV-8 )
